History/general species info: Also known by the Spanish name, Hierba De Zizotes, also Side-cluster Milkweed, Longhorn Milkweed, Primrose Milkweed, Lindheimer's Milkweeds. Zizotes in Spanish mean skin sores.
Characteristics: The long slender hoods on the flowers are unique among milkweeds and distinguish this species from all others. Fragrant.

Planting / Care: Prefers tight sandy clay soils and dunes along the Texas coast. Full sun, intolerant of shade. Can survive occasional drought, mowing. Shallow roots. Can be poisonous to livestock.
Light requirement: Full sun
Wildlife: Larval host for Queens and Monarch butterflies; and the bumblebees, and honey bees love them!
